A Life in Music & Theatre

For more than four decades, Amy Throckmorton has been performing, directing, teaching, and creating in the world of music and theatre. From professional stages in Los Angeles and New York to international performances in Japan and aboard Disney and Holland America Cruise Line, Amy brings a lifetime of real-world performance experience to her work as a teacher and director.

Amy holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Theatre and Music from the University of Southern California and an MBA from Colorado State University.  She has built a career that spans musical theatre, concert performance, vocal instruction, directing, and arts education.

Amy believes that singing is about much more than producing the right notes. It's about storytelling, connection, confidence, and discovering the unique qualities that make your voice yours.

Music is for everyone.

About Amy

Performance

Amy's performance career has taken her from New York to Los Angeles to Tokyo, with credits encompassing musical theatre, concert performance, television and film, recording, and international entertainment.

Her performance experience includes work with Disney Cruise Line, Tokyo Disney, Holland America, The Hollywood Bowl, The LA Philharmonic, La Mirada Performing Arts, Lamb's Players Theatre, The Westchester Broadway Theater, Moonlight Amphitheatre, and other professional stages and productions.

That range of performance experience has given Amy an appreciation for the many different skills that go into being a successful performer—from vocal versatility and musicality to character development, audition technique, and connecting authentically with an audience.

Directing & Musical Theatre

As a director and musical theatre educator, Amy loves creating productions that are both artistically ambitious and genuinely collaborative.

Her directing credits include productions with young performers, teens, and adults, spanning a wide range of musical theatre styles and genres. Recent productions include Hadestown: Teen Edition, Urinetown, Legally Blonde, Heathers, Little Shop of Horrors and many others.

Whether working with a seasoned performer or someone stepping onto a stage for the first time, Amy's goal is to create an environment where performers feel challenged, supported, and empowered to take creative risks.

Teaching & Arts Education

Amy has spent more than a decade teaching voice privately, while also bringing music and theatre into schools, after-school programs, community programs, and adult education classrooms.

Her teaching experience includes working with students of all ages and experience levels—from young beginners discovering their voices to experienced performers preparing for auditions and professional opportunities.

Through school and after-school programs, Amy has taught musical theatre, voice, acting, and ensemble performance, creating opportunities for students to experience the full process of putting on a show.

She also teaches adult musical theatre classes, helping students who may be returning to performing after years away—or discovering musical theatre for the very first time.

Private Voice

For the past 10 years, Amy has worked with private voice students, developing individualized instruction based on each singer's goals, experience, and natural voice.

Lessons may focus on vocal technique, musical theatre, audition preparation, performance skills, acting through song, or simply becoming a more confident and expressive singer.

There is no single kind of “good singer.” Amy's goal is to help each student discover what makes their voice special—and give them the tools to use it with confidence.
